Benidorm
Benidorm is the largest Mediterranean tourist resort. Located on the Costa Blanca, 28 miles northeast of Alicante, Benidorm is a mass tourism destination. With its high-rise apartments and hotels, packed beaches and a somewhat Blackpool’ish feel, Benidorm keeps the visitors coming back year after year.
Sparkling lights, loud music, obscure cabaret acts, 24-hour partying, extra large sombreros and stuffed donkeys – Benidorm has it all.
For many holidaymakers, Benidorm offers cheap package holiday deals from practically every airport in the UK, including Manchester, Heathrow, Luton, Cardiff and Liverpool. Flights arrive at Alicante International Airport, and transfer time is approximately 50 minutes.
Millions flock to Benidorm to let their hair down, and enjoy a fun-packed, value for money bargain holiday. Many remain close to the vicinity of their accommodation, and it’s these people that miss out on the real Benidorm.
Beyond the rows of tack shops, fast-food outlets and English pubs, the real Benidorm magically appears. Beautiful coastal mountains form a backdrop to some magnificent views. Dotted around the countryside are historic towns and villages, each surrounded by fields of almond, orange and olive trees.
Originally a tiny fishing village, the first tourists were from Spain. Cheaper holiday and flight deals in the 1960’s meant that more people could afford a holiday abroad and Benidorm became the ideal place. Tourists needed accommodation and the somewhat ugly, but much needed, skyscraper apartments were built. Hotels, flats, studio apartments, shops, cafeterias, and leisure facilities were built. Sacrificing the once rural lifestyle, the people of Benidorm assured their futures. In tourists they trusted. It must have been the best decision they could have made, as millions of tourists from all over the world flocked to worship the sun. Today Benidorm boasts over 35,000 beds in hotels alone, with an added 200,000 in apartments and flats. There are over 1000 restaurants and 30 discos.
Benidorm has three major beaches: Levante, Mal Pas and Poniente. Despite having over 40,000 people sitting on them everyday, these three beaches all boast blue flag awards. The beach is cleared of any rubbish at dusk, and machines sift the sand during the night. This keeps it soft and in pristine condition, and a filtration system keeps the sea clean. Accessibility to the beaches is good for disabled travellers.
Keep the kids happy in Benidorm by taking them to one of the theme parks. The Terra Mitica and Terra Natura are amongst several purpose built parks, and each offers an excellent, fun-filled, action-packed day.
British people fall in love with Benidorm, so much so, that English-speaking communities are developing all over. Ex-patriots are now jumping on the tourist bandwagon and are opening English orientated pubs, restaurants and hotels. It’s like home from home but with guaranteed sunshine!
Whatever you desire from a holiday, Benidorm can offer it. Beautiful scenery, hot sunshine, sparkling waters, huge mountains, soft sandy beaches, glitzy nightlife and 24hr entertainment. What more could you ask for at Benidorm? |
